Join us for the 25th Annual Patriotic Festival!

This family friendly event celebrates our Nation's Independence.

The day starts with the Pet ‘n’ Pal Parade at 10:00 am running through the downtown streets of Bastrop. Food & Drink booths open at Fisherman’s Park at 4:00 pm with some children’s activities as well. Live music begins about 5:30 pm with 2 homegrown ensembles - The Bastrop Youth String Ensemble and the Main Street American Swing Band. These groups are led by Mary Cay Schultz and Jeff Brister, both instructors at the Bastrop Academy of Music, and fall under the auspices of Bastrop Community Chorus and Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. For additional information on these groups, please call Jeff Brister at 321-PLAY(7529)

The  Bastrop Youth Orchestra is a graded string program open to students at all levels of study. The group is a feeder to the Bastrop Community Orchestra. Mary Cay Schultz, instructor at the Bastrop Academy of Music started the group and is its conductor. Most of the music performed on the Independence Day Celebration concert was written and/or arranged by Schultz. The pieces that will be performed are:
"Opus 1-4-5" (Mary Cay Schultz), is a tribute to American music rooted in the basic major scale chord progression.
"Constellations" (Mary Cay Schultz), is a Canon, or round of sorts, showcasing the various levels of ability within the orchestra.
"Deep in the Heart of Texas" (Swander, arr. Schultz), is patriotic tune, depending on who you ask....

The Main Street American Swing Band is a 17-piece jazz ensemble specializing in the music of the Swing Era. The group especially enjoys performing the music of such jazz-age greats as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Benny Moten. Great swing tunes such as "American Patrol", "Moonlight Serenade", "In The Mood", "Moten Swing", "Woodchoppers Ball", "Route 66", to name just a few, will be performed on the Independence Day Celebration concert. The group has been in existence for 7 years now and plays regularly for community events such as this one and other special occasions and dances. The band is available for hire. For booking or more information please contact the band leader, Jeff Brister at the Bastrop Academy of Music at 321-PLAY(7529).

This will be followed by an hour of patriotic favorites by the Austin Symphonic Band starting at 8 PM followed by the most spectacular fireworks in Central Texas at dusk.  This is a FREE, family-friendly, beloved community event held annually the first Saturday in July. Hope you will join us.
