Bastrop Homecoming is celebrating its 75th year. We began as a BBQ style picnic for the entire town as a “Welcome Home” to all service men and women returning from World War II. This annual tradition has provided an enjoyable weekend for the citizens of Bastrop and the surrounding area while maintaining a positive impact on the community. Our organization continues to support local community activities by raising funds to assist youth groups and other non-profit organizations, and by providing educational scholarships for students. We provide $14,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. The event is held every year during the 1st full weekend of August at Mayfest Hill Park. Festivities include three nights of live music, rodeo, a carnival, food and gift vendors, the Mike Mathison Memorial Horseshoe, Washer and Texas Hold’em Tournaments, the Fred Wright, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament, high school class reunions, 4-H Cake Auction, and exhibits. A Grand Parade is held on Saturday morning at 10am. Immediately following the parade, a sports banquet is held at the Bastrop Performing Arts Center where our scholarship recipients are honored. Each year, the Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo Committee strives to raise money so that we may continue our tradition of supporting Bastrop County’s youth and economy.
