SUMMARY:Still in the Brake at Virtual Bands for Lands- Night 3
DESCRIPTION:Pines and Prairies Land Trust is excited to host its 6th annual Bands for Lands event! This year we will have a multi-day line up of local Texas musicians.\n\nOctober 17th- Ley Line\n\nNovember 1st- Emily of Full Moon Medicine\n\nNovember 7th- Still in the Brake\n\n \n\nAbout Still in the Brake:\n\nFor the Central Texans that chose it\, cedar chopping wasn't just an occupation\, it was a way of life. For generations Alexa Dee Crooks' family followed cattle trails from cedar brake to cedar brake (in a covered wagon until the early 1940s) to chop cedar posts by hand\, while they lived on the land in tents for months at a time. The culture\, beliefs\, and songs of their Appalachian ancestors were kept well insulated from outside influence since the group was generally ostracized from townsfolk.\n\nWhen their days work was done\, they hunted and gathered\, made moonshine\, and played a wide range of music\; including ballads\, cowboy songs\, fiddle tunes\, and folk songs\, many of which later became standards in the Bluegrass genre. With Alexa Dee on fiddle\, Dave Wilmoth on mandolin\, and Chris Teauge on Guitar Still in the Brake came together to not only share the music played amongst cedar choppers in the cedar brakes of Central Texas\, but also to bring the history of this little known group out of the woods of the past and into the present."\n\n \n\nDonations:\n\nIf you feel inspired please make a donation to Pines and Prairies Land Trust! Your donation will go towards restoring native prairies at our preserves and providing educational opportunities for Central Texans! Everyone who makes a donation during Bands for Lands will be invited to a special Donor Day event at Billig Ranch on November 14th.\n\n*Also anyone who has donated to Pines and Prairies since November 14th 2019 will be invited to the donor day! \n\n \n\n\n\nWatching the event:\n\nThe event will be free a Facebook Live event. RSVP to the event to be notified when the music is about to begin!\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nEVENT PAGE
