SUMMARY:Quarterly Meeting | Leah Moncure\, PE #2250\, Texas's First Woman Engineer
DESCRIPTION:The museum's next quarterly meeting will feature Bastrop's own\, Leah Moncure\, who became the first woman engineer in Texas. Born and raised in Bastrop\, Leah Moncure beat the odds and managed to succeed in the "male" profession of engineering\, becoming Texas's first woman professional engineer and the Texas Highway Department's first female engineer. Sandra Chipley\, BCHS Trustee and vice chair of the Bastrop county Historical Commission\, will be our speaker for this month's Quarterly Meeting. During her years at TxDOT\, Chipley became familiar with Leah Moncure's story. Recognizing the need to memorialize and spread Leah's story\, Chipley researched and wrote the "Leah Moncure\, PE #2250" Texas Historical Commission Undertold Marker Application as a project for King's Highway Chapter\, NSDAR. The marker was awarded in early 2021 and will be unveiled in Bastrop on January 13. Join us to hear the story behind this amazing Bastrop woman and the journey to create a lasting memorial to her memory.
